Police Officer, Six Inmates Killed in Tragic Limpopo Accident
A pall of sadness has descended over the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo following a devastating road accident earlier today. Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, expressed her deep sorrow after learning of the incident which resulted in the loss of a police officer and six inmates.
The tragic event occurred at approximately 09:00 on the R101 highway, between the towns of Mokopane and Mookgopong. Initial reports indicate that a police vehicle, transporting the inmates, was involved in a collision. The circumstances surrounding the crash are currently under investigation.
Lt Gen Hadebe conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officer and the families of the inmates. “This is a heartbreaking loss for the entire SAPS family,” she stated. “We are providing support to those affected by this tragedy and are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident.”
