Alcohol Truck Jackknife Causes R21 Traffic Delays
Motorists travelling north on the R21 are facing significant delays this morning due to a jackknifed lorry carrying a cargo of alcoholic beverages. The incident occurred just after Voortrekker Road, bringing traffic to a standstill.
All lanes are currently affected, and emergency services are on the scene. Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Freeway Unit Officers, along with officers from the South African Police Service (SAPS), are working to manage the situation and clear the wreckage. Recovery efforts are underway, but drivers are advised to seek alternative routes where possible.
“We are experiencing major congestion,” stated a spokesperson from the EMPD. “Our priority is to ensure the safety of everyone involved and to get the road cleared as quickly as possible. Please exercise patience and caution if you are in the area.”
