Suspects Arrested with Compressed Copper, Valued at R22,500

Seven individuals have been apprehended in Diepkloof following the discovery of suspected stolen copper. The arrests occurred during a routine operation carried out by the South African Police Service (SAPS) on Friday, August 22nd, 2025.

Whilst patrolling the area, officers noticed a vehicle that aroused their suspicion. A search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of compressed copper, estimated to be worth £1,100 (R22,500). The occupants of the vehicle, seven in total, were unable to produce any documentation to verify lawful ownership or purchase of the copper.

As a result, all seven suspects were taken into custody and are currently facing charges related to the possession of suspected stolen property. Authorities are continuing their investigations into the matter and are working to determine the original source of the copper.
